 THAI YOGA MASSAGE

Traditional Thai ‘Acupressure-Yoga’ Massage

Since hundreds of years, Traditional Thai Massage (TTM) has had an important place in Thai lifestyle and medicine. What makes it so unique, is its combination of stretching and acupressure techniques using thumbs, elbows, palms and feet, which makes Thai massage both relaxing and dynamic.

TTM helps you find back balance between your body and spirit that has been disturbed by stress. This stress, either physical or emotional, is being expressed through your physical body from which you might experience tensed muscles or discomfort.

Furthermore, tensed muscles might as well impede your nerves or blood circulation to flow freely, which might cause even more discomfort. This is why it is important to keep your body and health in order to be able to do your daily activities in the most effective and peaceful way.

What is a Traditional Thai Massage (TTM)?

Thai Traditional Massage is an important part of Thai lifestyle regarding to health since hundreds of years. At that time agriculture was the most common activity for Thai people, especially in the Northern part.

In order to get relieved from stiffness and other muscular pain, massage (combination of stretches and acupressure) was commonly practiced in households and by local ‘doctors’.

There are several approaches to TTM.
It can be aimed to relax, to treat physical injuries and to reconnect body, mind and spirit.

How Does it Work?

In Traditional Thai Medicine, we work with energy lines also known as ‘Sen’ that are similar to the meridians in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thai ‘Sen’ follows life energy pathways throughout the body called ‘Lom phrang’ (such as Qi in Chinese medicine or Prana in Ayurveda).
TTM works mainly on the muscular-skeletal system.
This is mostly done on a mat on the floor rather than a massage table, as it is common in other massage techniques. Oil or massage lotion is not in use. Moreover the recipient remains fully clothed, wearing a suitable pant and shirt, that a maximum range of motion
during the movements are ensured
In Traditional Thai Massage, the practitioner is a guide which makes you aware of the state of your body.
Some compare Traditional Thai Massage to a tango dance where the practitioner leads
while the customer let himself be guided by the practitioner.

Traditional Thai Massage is done in silence, putting both parties in a meditative state which ensures a most effective relaxing effect.

About

It is hardly possible to find a time when I haven't been physically active. Since my early years physical activity acts fascinating to me. I love all kind of sports and movements. Some of them for their own sake, others because they are extremely beneficial for keeping body and mind in good condition.
I studied philosophy at the university in Duesseldorf, Germany, but felt much more attracted to the asian philosophy from India, China and Thailand where the idea of meditation appears.

I soon started to travel to these countries to explore their way of thinking and living.

In search of a combination of movement and meditation the Buddha's middle way led me to the teachings of Thai Massage. The merging of being in a silent and relaxed state while acting physically had been a great contribution to me.

I am very grateful to have met on my present way of learning how to live whole and healthy with understanding and clarity so many different teachers, friends and colleagues around the globe.

In the same way I feel honored by everyone who needs on his/her path a helping hand.
